CERTIFICATE II IN CIVIL CONSTRUCTION

This national accredited qualification reflects the role of individuals working in an operational role in civil construction, who undertake a prescribed range of tasks using limited practical skills and fundamental knowledge, in a defined context working under supervision. Training and assessment are both theory and practical based, practical learning is hands on with the opportunity to build on your skills by participating in live works programs / projects.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements for this course however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions. To study as a trainee within this program you must be indentured as a trainee with your employer. The minimum age for a trainee is 13 years of age as described by The Child Employment Act.
DELIVERY METHOD
The Certificate III in Civil Construction traineeship is delivered using an on-the-job training model, where trainees develop skills in a real work environment under the guidance of both their employer and our qualified trainers, ensuring minimal disruption to operational activities while maximising learning outcomes.
Student competency will be assessed through a combination of methods to ensure a well-rounded evaluation of skills and knowledge. Workplace observations will be conducted on-site, allowing trainees to demonstrate their practical abilities in a real work environment.
Online knowledge assessments will be completed and submitted via the student portal, ensuring theoretical understanding is assessed effectively. Supervisor confirmations will involve trainees submitting training record book entries, which must be signed by their supervisor to verify competency in workplace tasks. Additionally, practical demonstrations will take place during scheduled assessor visits, providing further validation of skill application and competency development.
Students not undertaking this qualification as a traineeship will primarily engage with online learning content and assessments. However, practical components will still require demonstration in an appropriate workplace environment, with evidence of competency uploaded as part of assessment submissions.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
All students will be offered the opportunity to participate in a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process if they believe they have suitable skills and knowledge through work experience, formal and informal training. The RPL process is suited to those who can demonstrate Prior Learning against the units of competency described in the qualification. The RPL process must be completed within 8 weeks from enrolment, and is as follows:
- Candidate makes a general enquiry about suitability for RPL
- Candidate completes an RPL Preliminary Application
- Candidate gathers Documentary Evidence & 2 x Third Party Reports
- Candidate submits evidence to trainer/assessor
- Trainer/assessor has competency conversation with the candidate
- Trainer/assessor provides feedback to the candidate about the outcomes
- Successful units are recorded & training commences on remaining units
FUNDING AND FEES
Fees are subject to change annually. Fees are payable at the time of enrolment.
The User Choice 2021-2024 program provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment services for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees.
Traineeship: eligible trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. The fees may vary depending on the electives selected at time of signup. Concession rates apply for students who hold a current Health Care Card or who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander are calculated at a regulated rate of $0.64 per nominal hour.
