FUNDING
Funding Options
Queensland State Government User Choice Funding
Funding is available from the Queensland Government if at minimum you are:
- A Queensland resident
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Do not hold two or more qualifications funded under the User Choice 2017-2020 Program
There is a Student Co-Contribution Fee (currently set at $1.60 per nominal hour) which is based on the total nominal hours of each qualification. This varies from between $500 and $1,400 per qualification depending on the electives chosen. Employers may choose to cover this cost on behalf of their employees.
- The User Choice program helps cover a portion of the training and assessment costs to support students in their training. However, students are responsible for paying a co-contribution fee of $1.60 per nominal hour of training. This fee is calculated at the end of each unit of competency or module. While the fee can be paid by the student’s employer or another third party, the training provider is unable to waive or cover this cost.
The courses included in the User Choice Program are as follows:
- RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations
- RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bridge Construction and Maintenance)
- RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Pipe Laying)
- RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)
Through the User Choice program, apprentices and trainees can receive up to two government funding contributions. However, to qualify for the second funding, the first completed qualification must have a lower priority ranking than the second. Additionally, apprentices and trainees can only receive one government contribution for a User Choice-funded qualification at a time, meaning they cannot receive funding for two apprenticeships or traineeships simultaneously. It’s important to keep in mind that receiving government funding for a course may impact your eligibility for future funding claims.
